Effective use of Mastercam requires the right hardware, which is why we provide a clear breakdown of the minimum requirements, the manufacturer's recommendations, and Camcut's own hardware recommendation. Choosing the right hardware ensures that the software runs smoothly and supports productive work in a machine-shop environment.
The minimum requirements are the basic requirements needed to launch Mastercam and use its basic functions. Hardware that meets the minimum requirements is suitable, for example, for educational use and less demanding design tasks. The operating system must be at least Windows 10 or 11, and the processor must be a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor running at a minimum of 2.4 GHz. At least 8 GB of RAM is required for smooth system operation, and the graphics card must support the OpenGL 3.2 and OpenCL 1.2 standards. A Full HD display resolution is recommended. The system must also have at least 20 GB of free storage space and a standard mouse.
The manufacturer's recommended requirements are specifically designed for demanding use of Mastercam and more intensive machine-shop and production environments. These requirements ensure that the software also runs smoothly when simulating heavier toolpaths and handling large 3D models. The recommended operating system is the Professional edition of Windows 10 (version 20H2 or later). The recommended processor is an Intel i7 or Xeon® E3 series processor (Kaby Lake or later) with a clock speed of at least 3.2 GHz. The system should have at least 32 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro® or AMD FirePro™/Radeon Pro series graphics card with at least 4 GB of memory. Using two monitors that support Full HD resolution further improves productivity. A fast NVMe drive is recommended for storage, and a 3Dconnexion 3D mouse should also be used to facilitate 3D model handling and programming.
Camcut’s own recommendation is based on our experience with machine-shop use and the most common needs of our customers. Hardware that meets our recommendation satisfies the manufacturer’s requirements and provides an optimal balance between performance and cost-effectiveness. For the operating system, we recommend the 64-bit Professional edition of Windows 10 (version 20H2 or later). The processor should be at least an Intel i7 or Xeon® E3 series processor (Kaby Lake or later) with a clock speed of at least 3.2 GHz. We recommend at least 32 GB of RAM to ensure smooth operation, even with large toolpaths. A graphics card from the NVIDIA Quadro® or AMD FirePro™ / Radeon Pro series with at least 2 GB of memory is suitable. For storage, we recommend a fast SSD to ensure quick startup and file processing. A Full HD display resolution (1920x1080) is recommended, and a standard mouse is sufficient for most applications.
By choosing hardware in accordance with the manufacturer’s or Camcut’s recommendations, you can ensure that Mastercam operates efficiently and supports your machine shop’s production processes. Powerful, optimized hardware improves ease of use, shortens calculation times, and enables smoother work even on complex projects.
