Mastercam APlus

Mastercam APlus is a Mastercam add-on for DED-based additive and hybrid manufacturing. It enables additive toolpaths to be programmed in the same CAD/CAM environment as conventional subtractive machining toolpaths. In Directed Energy Deposition (DED), material is fed onto a workpiece in the form of wire or powder and melted into place using a laser, electron beam, or electric arc.
APlus enables additive toolpath programming, backplotting, and simulation within the Mastercam interface. Additive and subtractive operations can be combined in the same manufacturing process, allowing material to be added where needed and then machined to final dimensions and the required surface finish.

Mastercam APlus for Additive and Hybrid Manufacturing
In hybrid manufacturing, additive and subtractive operations can be combined in the same process. A typical application is repairing a worn or damaged part: the damaged area is machined away, new material is added using the DED process, and the deposited material is then machined to the required dimensions.
APlus is also suitable for building new geometries onto existing parts. Material can be added only where it is needed, and additive and subtractive operations can be alternated during the manufacturing process. This also makes it possible to produce geometries that would be difficult to create using only subtractive or only additive methods.
In the DED process, the movement of the additive head or nozzle can be programmed using multiple axes. 4- and 5-axis motion makes it possible to add material from different directions based on the part geometry, which is especially useful in repair applications, hard-to-reach areas, and complex hybrid-manufactured parts.
APlus additive toolpaths can be reviewed in Mastercam using backplotting and simulation before the program is transferred to the machine. The simulation also allows users to monitor material buildup during the additive process and see how additive and subtractive operations combine to produce the final part.
Mastercam APlus works with Mastercam Mill, Lathe, and Router licenses, excluding Entry configurations. The add-on is particularly well suited for manufacturers using DED-based material deposition, part repair, or hybrid manufacturing processes that combine additive and subtractive machining.
