Mastercam 2026 – Efficiency and Artificial Intelligence for CAM Programming

21.08.2025

The new Mastercam 2026 version of the world's most popular CAD/CAM software brings a host of improvements, responding to user feedback and industry needs. The update delivers even more powerful solutions for CAM programming, machining quality, and process management. Mastercam resellers will provide download links and updated post processors to Mastercam CONNECT maintenance customers during the fall. Camcut has compiled the main highlights of Mastercam 2026 in this article—get a more detailed introduction from your local sales rep or check out the new features in person at the Subcontracting Trade Fair at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center, September 30–October 2, 2025, at Zenex Computing’s booth C921

More Efficient Hole Processing

Mastercam 2026 introduces a completely redesigned hole processing system for solid models. Hole creation is now divided into three clear sections: geometry selection, hole type, and additional settings. The new “Include Empty Gaps” option allows you to manage the empty spaces between hole segments as either one continuous hole or as separate holes. This streamlines the planning of machining paths for complex holes compared to previous versions.

Critical Depths in Dynamic OptiRough

The “Critical Depths” feature, familiar from Area Roughing, is now available in 3D OptiRough toolpaths. This enables automatic machining of flat faces without separate finishing operations, making programming faster and more efficient.

Tapered Helical Entry

The new tapered helical entry for entering the material (tapered helical approach) improves chip evacuation, coolant access during cutting, and extends the life of cutting tools. This addresses previous challenges where straight cylindrical helical entry was not effective enough, especially when machining deep pocket shapes.

Advancements in Safe Zone Management

Safe zone motion priority now offers three alternatives for toolpath optimization: minimize angle changes, minimize distance, or use a balanced solution. Previously, the software always chose the shortest route, which was not always optimal for machining or machine kinematics.

New Turning Capabilities

Turning toolpath parameters can now be easily saved and loaded with the toolbar buttons. The new custom default parameters, already familiar in Mill toolpaths, allow you to quickly apply a variety of settings.

Additionally, PrimeTurning™ has become even more versatile. The new features include turning at different approach angles, simultaneous pinch turning with two tools, and finely adjustable finishing operations such as feed adjustment before the end of the cut. These improvements make the turning process both faster and more controlled.

Mill-Turn Extensions and Tool Management

The new Mastercam 2026 brings support for traditional milling toolpaths when programming multi-function lathes, allowing users to take advantage of Surface Roughing, Surface Finishing, and Wireframe methods within the Mill-Turn environment. This greatly improves programming flexibility for multi-function lathes.

Tool management has seen major improvements. The new Milling Tool Modeling feature allows users to design both tools and holders visually and with great accuracy.

In addition, generic tool catalog (GTC) support for turning speeds up the creation of 3D turning tools, as tools can be imported directly from GTC packages into Mastercam and added to the library or active machine.

Better Level and Plane Management

Both level and plane management have been revamped into tree structures. This allows you to create groups, arrange them with drag-and-drop, and take advantage of efficient searching and filtering—making it much easier to organize complex files. In the new Mastercam version, plane creation and management have also moved to the main screen, so you no longer have to switch views to create or change planes.

AI to Boost Production

Mastercam 2026 offers early access to the new Copilot AI assistant, bringing natural language programming and intelligent support to the software. Its aim is to reduce the burden of programming and make the work easier for both new and experienced users. Copilot is available to Mastercam CONNECT maintenance customers through the Early Adopter program, putting you among the first to try out the future of CAM programming.

In its first release, Copilot features two main functions. The Help function searches instructions and gives step-by-step guidance for complex tasks. Upcoming updates will add Contextual Awareness, offering guidance based on what you’re actively working on in the software. The Command function translates written or spoken commands into program actions. This enables you to launch operations, search settings, and execute commands without navigating through menus.

Training and Support for CAM Programming

To get the most out of the new version, users should familiarize themselves with its many new features. Mastercam’s official reseller and training partner, Camcut, provides extensive support: in addition to customized corporate training, there are comprehensive Finnish-language video training packages covering step-by-step instructions, exercises, and sample models. These videos allow you to study the software at your own pace without interrupting production.

Plus, the support section on Camcut’s website offers a wealth of Mastercam resources, including comprehensive descriptions of all toolpaths, a shortcut list, dynamic milling guides, and practice assignments for various software modules. You'll also find clear instructions for software installation and license management. With these materials, users can flexibly develop their skills and ensure they get the full benefit of Mastercam 2026’s new features, both in industry and education.
