CAM Programming Service
With Camcut’s CAM programming service, we design a comprehensive programming solution for CNC machining that includes not only toolpaths, but also the right cutting tools, holders, tool stick-outs, and optimized machining parameters.
CAM programming tailored to real production needs
Camcut’s CAM programming service starts with the workpiece to be manufactured, the machine tool to be used, and the goals set for the customer’s production. We determine how the part can be manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the required quality using the available machine and production environment.
The service involves more than simply creating toolpaths and generating NC code. As part of the programming process, we also consider the sequence of operations, cutting tools, holders, tool reach, workholding, machining strategies, and cutting parameters. This ensures that the completed program is based on a functional machining method, not just the geometry of the part.
Programming can be carried out for manufacturing a new part, solving a demanding individual operation, improving an existing program, or supporting situations where the customer’s in-house programming capacity is insufficient. Camcut can manage the entire programming process or support the customer’s own programmer, process planner, and production team.
The goal is to deliver a production-ready solution whose operation has been evaluated before the NC code is finalized and transferred to the machine tool.

CAM programming support to supplement your in-house capacity and expertise
The customer does not need to have Mastercam or any other CAM software to use Camcut’s CAM programming service. We carry out the programming in Mastercam and deliver the agreed programming files along with NC code compatible with the customer’s machine tool.
The service is suitable for companies that do not have their own CAM software or CAM programmer. Camcut can act as an external programming resource for an individual job, during a production peak, or as ongoing support when purchasing in-house software or building internal programming expertise is not practical.
We can also help when the customer uses another CAM software whose license does not support, for example, machining 3D surfaces, multi-axis programming, or machining methods that combine turning and milling. The service is also useful when there is insufficient expertise to program a demanding job or when the customer’s own personnel do not have time to create the program within the production schedule.
The service is suitable for both small machine shops and large industrial companies. For a small company, Camcut can handle the entire CAM programming process. For a larger company, we can supplement the existing programming team, solve demanding special cases, or free up the customer’s personnel for other production tasks.
If the customer uses Mastercam, continuing and fine-tuning the programming is especially straightforward. The customer can review the toolpaths and settings used, make minor changes during a test run, and use the delivered program as a template for future programming work. The completed programming package can also serve as practical training material for the customer’s own personnel.
Camcut carries out CAM programming and machining-method development work every week for machine shops of various sizes throughout Finland. The work can be performed remotely, on the customer’s premises, or as a combination of both. The delivery method is selected based on the complexity of the part, the available input data, and the level of implementation support required.
Tools, holders, and machining parameters as part of programming
An effective CAM program requires toolpaths, cutting tools, and machining parameters to be designed as a unified whole. The tool’s geometry, cutting characteristics, reach, and mounting affect the type of toolpath that can be created for the workpiece and the machining parameters that can be used.
As part of the programming process, Camcut can select suitable cutting tools and toolholders for the workpiece. We consider the tools’ lengths, diameters, reaches, and the space required by the holders in relation to the workpiece, fixtures, and the machine tool’s structure.
When necessary, we compare several tool options and simulate their impact on toolpaths, accessibility, and machining feasibility. At the same time, we can prepare a quotation for the tools and holders required to implement the program.
Machining parameters are determined based on the tool, insert grade, workpiece material, machine tool, fixturing, and selected machining strategy. We consider factors such as cutting speed, feed rate, chip thickness, depth of cut, and whether the machine has sufficient power and torque.
The goal is not to use the highest or most conservative values possible, but to find an efficient and stable operating point for the machining process. The machining parameters must support machining time, tool life, surface quality, and overall process reliability.

CAM programming for different machines and manufacturing methods
Camcut creates programs in Mastercam in accordance with the requirements of the customer’s workpiece, machine tool, and manufacturing method. The service may cover CNC milling, CNC turning, multi-axis machining, Mill-Turn multitasking lathes, Swiss-type turning machines, vertical lathes, and wire EDM.
Programming may include 2D and 2.5D machining, the machining of demanding 3D surfaces, simultaneous five-axis machining, and programming solutions that combine turning and milling.
Toolpaths are created based on the machine’s configuration, travel limits, rotary axes, tool changes, and other technical constraints. The programming process also takes into account the available postprocessor and its suitability for the machine tool in question.
When necessary, the workpiece, stock, fixtures, tools, holders, and machine environment are defined in Mastercam. This makes it possible to evaluate the program’s operation as accurately as possible in conditions that closely reflect the customer’s actual production environment.
Simulation before the final NC code
Camcut provides the customer with a simulation of the programming solution before finalizing the program. The simulation can be used to review the sequence of operations, tool movements, material removal, tool changes, approaches and retracts, as well as the overall execution of the program.
The simulation allows the customer to evaluate the proposed machining method before the final NC code is prepared for the machine tool. The customer can comment, for example, on the sequence of operations, the tools to be used, the fixturing, or the production practices used in their facility.
Based on the feedback received, Camcut makes the necessary changes to the program and finalizes the programming package. Only after this do we generate the NC code for the customer’s machine tool using the agreed postprocessor.
Simulation does not eliminate the need for inspection and a test run on the machine tool. The final program must always be verified in the customer’s own production environment before automatic or unattended operation. However, simulation reduces uncertainty and helps identify areas for improvement before the first test run.

Programming a new part and improving existing programs
Programming a new part can begin with a drawing or 3D model, along with information about the machine tool and production environment. Camcut reviews the part geometry, material, stock, tolerances, surface finish requirements, workholding, and available tools.
Based on this information, we establish the sequence of operations and create suitable toolpaths for the part. When necessary, we compare alternative tooling solutions and machining strategies, and assess their impact on machining time, tool life, and process reliability.
Camcut can also improve the customer’s existing Mastercam programs. Potential areas for improvement may include long machining times, unnecessary air cutting, uneven tool loading, short tool life, poor chip control, vibration, surface finish, or program reliability.
When improving existing programs, we evaluate the toolpaths, tools, holders, cutting parameters, and sequence of operations. The change may involve correcting a single toolpath or parameter, but when necessary, the programming solution can be rebuilt more extensively.
How Camcut’s CAM Programming Service Works
We review the part to be manufactured, the machine tool to be used, the production goals, and the type of programming and process support the customer needs.
The required information may include, for example, a drawing or 3D model, material, stock, tolerances, surface finish requirements, fixturing solution, tools, machine tool specifications, and the available postprocessor.
We define the sequence of operations, machining strategies, tools, holders, tool reach, and cutting parameters. When necessary, we compare several alternative approaches.
We create the necessary toolpaths for the part in Mastercam and adapt them to the customer’s machine tool, fixturing, tools, and manufacturing requirements.
We simulate the programming solution and deliver it to the customer for review. The customer can evaluate the toolpaths, operations, tools, and the suitability of the proposed method for their own production.
Based on the customer’s feedback, we make any necessary changes to the toolpaths, tools, cutting parameters, or sequence of operations.
Using the available postprocessor, we generate NC code compatible with the customer’s machine tool from the approved programming solution and deliver the agreed programming files to the customer.
When necessary, we support the test run of the program in the customer’s production environment and refine the program based on practical observations. The program can also be further developed later based on experience gained in production.
From Toolpaths to an Efficient Machining Solution
The goal of Camcut’s CAM programming service is to provide the customer with more than just an NC program. The service combines CAM programming, expertise in machining methods, tool selection, cutting-parameter optimization, simulation, and a practical understanding of production.
Before the final NC code is created, the customer is shown the proposed machining solution and can influence its content. This reduces the risk of misunderstandings and ensures that the program is suitable for the customer’s machine, tools, and production practices.
When needed, Camcut can also supply the cutting tools and holders used in the program and support the production of the first parts. If the customer has Mastercam, the program can be reviewed together with the customer’s personnel, helping to further develop their in-house programming expertise.
