Mastercam 5-Axis Curve

Mastercam 5-Axis Curve Machining and Drilling is an add-on for the Mastercam Mill and Router software products that provides the Curve 5-axis multiaxis toolpath and 4- and 5-axis hole machining. It is suitable for applications requiring curve- and edge-based multiaxis machining or the machining of holes in different orientations, without the extensive range of toolpaths included in the full Mastercam Multiaxis add-on.
The Curve 5-axis toolpath can follow 3D curves, wireframe geometry, and the edges of surface and solid models. The tool axis orientation can be controlled throughout the toolpath based on the geometry and machining requirements, enabling controlled 4- and 5-axis motion along curved and changing paths.
The add-on also supports programming holes in different orientations on 4- and 5-axis machine tools. This makes it possible to program drilling, tapping, thread milling, and circular interpolation for holes at different angles in a single setup, without reclamping the workpiece or creating a new setup.
5-Axis Curve Machining and Programming Holes in Different Orientations
5-Axis Curve Machining and Drilling is designed especially for machine shops whose multiaxis programming needs are limited to machining curves and edges, as well as holes located in different orientations. The Curve 5-axis toolpath allows tool motion to be generated based on a 3D curve or model edge, for example, while the tool axis orientation is controlled according to the geometry being machined.
This can be used for applications such as 5-axis trimming, edge machining, and other operations in which the toolpath moves through three-dimensional space in multiple directions. The tool orientation can be changed during the operation to maintain suitable tool contact and accessibility throughout the entire toolpath.
For hole machining, multiaxis capabilities allow the tool to be oriented according to the axes of holes located at different angles. A Mastercam toolpath suitable for the hole-making operation can then be used, such as drilling, tapping, thread milling, or circular interpolation. This makes it possible to program and machine holes located on multiple faces in a single setup on a 4- or 5-axis machine tool.
5-Axis Curve Machining and Drilling does not include the full range of multiaxis toolpaths available in the Mastercam Multiaxis add-on. If machining requires flank machining, multisurface toolpaths, the Combined operation, multiaxis pocketing, or other more advanced multiaxis strategies, Mastercam Multiaxis is required. 5-Axis Curve Machining and Drilling is a more limited alternative when the need is specifically for Curve 5-axis machining and 4- and 5-axis hole machining.
