Mastercam PrimeTurning™
PrimeTurning™ is a new turning method developed jointly by Mastercam and Sandvik Coromant. The innovative PrimeTurning™ method uses CoroTurn® Prime tools. These tools enable both conventional turning and PrimeTurning in Mastercam. The new PrimeTurning method enables exceptionally high material removal rates and extended tool life.
PrimeTurning’s high material removal rate is based on the high feed rate enabled by the insert’s cutting-edge angle compared with conventional turning. This machining method provides excellent chip control, and the tool can be used when turning in both directions. This extends tool life and consequently reduces insert changes and production downtime.
PrimeTurning™ can increase productivity by up to 50% compared with conventional turning. This is because the method enables higher cutting speeds and feed rates during turning, which can significantly reduce machining costs over the long term. Because cutting is smoother and less interrupted, PrimeTurning™ substantially extends tool life. This technology makes it possible to machine even complex geometries and profiles that would be difficult to achieve using conventional methods. It also enables more efficient part production in a single setup. PrimeTurning™ represents a significant leap forward in metalworking technology, delivering more efficient, precise, and cost-effective turning. It enables machine shops to shorten production times, improve part quality, extend tool life, and reduce tooling costs.
