Mastercam Migration Wizard

The Mastercam Migration Wizard is a tool that lets you update settings and files from previous Mastercam versions to be compatible with the new version. With the Migration Wizard, you can transfer things like tool libraries, operation libraries, default files, settings sheets, and configuration files to your new Mastercam installation.

Using the Migration Wizard ensures that files are updated correctly and the software remains stable.

Opening the Migration Wizard

You can find the Migration Wizard by starting the Mastercam software and selecting from the top menu:

File → Convert → Migration Wizard

Basic and Advanced Options

When you launch the Migration Wizard, you'll be presented with two options:

• Basic
  • Automatically updates all files from the previous Mastercam version to the new version in their default locations.
• Advanced
  • Allows for more detailed settings – you can choose which files to update and from which folders. This option is recommended since it lets you transfer only the necessary files, keeping your environment clean.

Choosing Folders

Select the source folder (old version) and destination folder (new version) to use for migration. If you're using Mastercam's default folder structure, you don't need to change any paths. Make sure the Include subfolders option is selected.

Selecting File Types to Update

By default, the Migration Wizard offers to update all file types. To deselect all, click the File Types checkbox once, then select only those files that are relevant for the new version:

• Operation Libraries
• Default Files
• Tool Libraries
• Settings Sheets
• Configuration Files

Updating Post Processors

You can also use the Migration Wizard to update unprotected, open post processors, as well as machine and control definitions.

If you're a Mastercam Connect maintenance customer, we do not recommend updating post processors yourself, as this may not add the new Mastercam version’s features to the post processor. Mastercam Connect maintenance customers can request updated post processor packages from their reseller.

Selecting Versions

Select which Mastercam version you want to update information from. Note that the Migration Wizard can only update up to three versions back. If your version is older than that, you'll need to install the intermediate versions on your workstation and use their Migration Wizard to update step by step.

Important Notes

• Never copy Mastercam files directly from one version to another using Windows Explorer. Always use the Migration Wizard.
• Improperly transferred files can make the software unstable.
• For tool libraries and settings files, only use Windows shared file folders.
• Using network drives or cloud services like OneDrive can cause connectivity issues and software slowdowns.
