The History of Hoffmann Group

In 1919, professional mechanic and machine builder Josef Hoffmann founded the company, which initially focused on selling technical products and metal items, including welding equipment and automotive accessories. Due to rapid growth, the company moved to larger premises in Munich in 1930 and began employing field sales representatives, offering customers technical support.

Josef Hoffmann’s son, Franz Hoffmann, joined the company in the early 1930s and introduced new business strategies, expanding the product range with tools and small machines, which attracted thousands of new customers. Franz Hoffmann’s strategic thinking and ability to adapt the product range to customer needs were key to the company’s success.

In 1936, Franz Hoffmann published the first unified product catalog for internal use. This catalog eventually evolved into a customer-oriented advisory resource, with the first fully self-produced and printed catalog released in 1952. The orange “tool bible” has been published annually since 1978 and is available in 18 different languages.
